The 22nd
Governor’s Bay Bridge Run
Sunday, May 6, 2007
The Governor’s Bay Bridge
Run is a 10k race across the eastbound span of the William Preston
Lane Memorial
Bridge over the beautiful
Chesapeake Bay. Beginning on Kent Island,
the course ascends two miles to the highest point on the bridge, descends two
miles, and finishes on flat roads into nearby Sandy Point
State Park.
Conducted by the Annapolis Striders, the
10k is held in conjunction with, but is separate from, the Bay Bridge
Walk and is controlled by the Maryland
Transportation Authority and the Department of Natural Resources. There is no access to the Walk from the
Bridge Run course or from Sandy
Point. Proceeds from the race go to the Chesapeake Bay Trust in support of the Bay.
Registration: Registration is available through Active.com
beginning in January 2007. An email
confirmation will be sent to you. A
printable application is also available from this web site. The race has a 3000 runner limit and usually
closes mid April.
Date: Sunday, May 6, 2007
Place and Time: All runners must ride busses from Sandy Point
State Park to the start
line on Kent Island.
Busses will depart Sandy
Point at 7:00 AM sharp! They will not pick up stragglers after the
doors are shut. The Maryland Transportation
Authority provides the busses and their policies will apply. Fanny packs are the only item that runners
will be allowed to bring on the bus.
Random security checks may occur.
A clothing drop will be available at the start line area and volunteers
will return the clothes to the finish line area .
Plan to arrive at Sandy
Point early as traffic
entering the park can be congested. The
park will open at 5:30 AM. Volunteers will direct parking. Port-o-johns and water will be available in
the bus boarding area. Please allow
plenty of time to arrive at Sandy
Point, park, and board
your bus by 6:45 AM. Only runners will be allowed to board the
busses.
Water and port-o johns will be available at the start line
area on Kent Island.
Race starts at 8:00
AM.
Rules: No headphones, no wheels, no pets, and no
runners who expect to run slower than a 12 min/mile pace. The Transportation Authority will close the
course before the Rt 50 overpass at a time determined slower than the
12-min/mile requirement to allow traffic to begin to exit Sandy Point. Runners still on the course at that time will
be required to board a bus to enter the park.
The course is not USTFA certified and is not appropriate for
wheelchairs.
Timing: The Bay Bridge
run will use ChampionChip timing to allow runners an accurate record of their
time. All runners will receive their
chip at packet pickup and will be required to attach it to their shoe. Volunteers will collect chips at the finish
line. Runners will be assessed a $30.00
fee for unreturned chips.
Start line mats, used for chip timing, will be removed 10
minutes after the start of the race. All
runners will need to cross the start line prior to mat removal.
Awards: Awards will be given to the top three
overall, male and female, and first master, male and female, as determined by
gun time. Age group awards will go to
the top three finishers in 5-year age groups based on participation. Age group awards will be determined by chip
time. Awards will be presented after 10:00 AM near the finish line. Winners not present will need to make
arrangements to pick up their award.
Fee: $30.00—
No Transfers---No Refunds

the Sajak Pavilion, Anne
Arundel Medical
Center, Jennifer Rd, Annapolis,
MD on Saturday, May 5, 2007 from 10:00-4:00. Runners can pick up their bib, chip, and
premium and avoid the long lines at Sandy
Point on race morning.
