THEGOVERNOR'S BAY BRIDGE RUN is a 10km foot race over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge conducted by the Annapolis Striders Inc. with the help of volunteers,the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Department of NaturalResources in conjunction with the Bay Bridge Walk. The course is not certifiedfor distance (No, they will not close down the bridge so we can accuratelymeasure it by USTFA standards!).

THE RACEBEGINS ON KENT ISLAND  at the foot of the Bridge, with 2 miles uphill, followed by2 miles downhill and 2 miles on flat roads in Sandy Point State Park. Waterstops will be located at mile 2 and mile 4.  Bus Transportation isprovided to the start from Sandy Point.

PLACE ANDTIME: All runnersmust ride on the buses from Sandy Point State Park across the Bay Bridge to the starting line. Buses willleave at 7:00 a.m. SHARP! Numbers are required to ride the bus. Furtherinformation and directions will be provided in the confirmation email/letter.NOTE: the buses close their doors and start to leave promptly at 7:00.DONOT expect to get on a bus after that time even if the last bus in line isempty and not moving. These rules have been set down by the Bay Bridge Walkauthorities (who supply the buses) and there is no exception! Plan to arrive atthe Park early (by 6:00 a.m.!) as there is only one road into the park andit starts to backup early (even with dozens of volunteers and the Park Policedirecting traffic).The Park opens at 5:30 a.m. Remember: it is better toarrive early, relax and use our fine port-a-pots than it is to be late and missthe bus! 

BAYBRIDGEWALK: Runners and others can participatein the Bay Bridge Walk after the Run only by boarding the Walk buses atdesignated parking areas, not from Sandy Point State Park. For WALK INFO: 1-877-Bayspanor www.mdta.state.md.us/bridgewalk.html.

CANCELLATIONPOLICY: The Run isa part of the Bay Bridge Walk. Officials of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and other State of Maryland agencies have authority to cancelthe Run for public safety reasons. The Annapolis Striders and its sponsors have no input orcontrol over their decision. The Striders and its sponsors cannot be heldresponsible if the Run is cancelled. In the event of cancellation prior to thefirst day of packet-pickup, each entrant will be provided a premium, oralternately, the Striders may elect to refund each entrant's fee. In the eventof cancellation after packet-pickup begins, each entrant who arrives atpacket-pickup will receive a premium. Therewill be no refunds.[NOTE: The Race was canceled in 2002, for the firsttime, due to extremely high winds, dense fog and strong rain which preventedthe safe closing of one bridge span. The Race was cancelled in 2003 due tonational security concerns.]

ALTERNATE COURSE:In the event that the Bay Bridge Walk is cancelled, thus canceling the Raceacross the Bridge, the Striders intend to run the Race on an alternate 10kmcourse beginning and ending from Sandy Point State Park. At this time the intention is tostart and end the Race at the present location of the finish line. The startwould be 8am.The course is still under discussion with officials of SandyPointState Park, the Bay Bridge Authoritiesand Anne Arundel County authorities

REFUNDS: This Race has a "no refund" policy.This policy applies to both Race cancellations and entrants' cancellation(runners who want to cancel because of injury or other personal reasons).Inshort, the Race fee is for entrance to the Race and any premium is a gift whichwill be distributed in accordance with the Race application.

RUNNER'SPREMIUMS & NUMBERS: All entrants will receive confirmation by email. Bib Numbers, chips andpremiums can be picked up at the New Balance Store in the Annapolis WestfieldMall on Friday, April 29 (noon-9 pm) & Saturday, April 30 (10 am-6 pm). Ifabsolutely necessary, a third party may pick up a runner's packet, with writtenauthorization. Late packet pick-up will be at Bus Pick Up/Drop-Off race morningat Sandy Point State Park from 6 am - 6:45 am

PREMIUM:The premium has notbeen selected, check back.

AWARDS: Awards will be given to the topthree male and female finishers, and first male and female Masters, asdetermined by Gun-time. Age Group awards will be given for the top three maleand female finishers as determined by chip time for the following categories:13&Under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59,and male 60-69, 70&Over and female 60&Over.The Awards Ceremony willtake place at approximately 10 am at the Finish Line. Any award winner whodoes not pick up their trophy at the ceremony will be notified and must makearrangements to retrieve their award at another time.

HOTELS: For reservations please contactthe Annapolis Tourist Bureau: 410-268-8687. There are a number ofnational-chain motels on Rt. 50 near Sandy Point State Park and the Bay Bridge on both sides of the Bay.

PROCEEDS: A portion of the proceeds go tothe Chesapeake Bay Trust. In 15 years, over $150,000 has been contributed tothe Bay Trust. Help preserve the Chesapeake Bay by making a tax-deductible donationwith your entry. Every donation of $15 or more (above race fee) will receive acommemorative pin. 

CONFIRMATIONEMAIL: Will be sentto all registrants. Be sure that the email address that you provide when youregister is correct.

RULES: No headphones, no wheeledvehicles, no baby joggers, no dogs, and no runners who expect to run slowerthan 12 minutes per mile (these runners should consider participating in theBay Bridge Walk beginning at 9 a.m.).The course will be closed beforeentering Sandy Point Park at a time determined to be slower than a 12 minuteper mile pace and those runners reaching that point after that time will berequired to take a straggler bus to the finish area (this is so that we canopen the park to vehicle traffic earlier to allow the runners to leave the parkfollowing the Race).This course is not appropriate for wheelchairathletes 

The Annapolis Striders are pleased to again use the ChampionChip Timing System. At packet pickup, all runners will receive abib number and an envelope containing a computer chip to be tied to theirshoelace. ENTRANTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIEDif they switch chips with another runner. Runners who do not wear the chips will not receive a time. More comprehensive instructions on the use ofthe chips will be included in the confirmation email. However, please note thateach runner is responsible for the return of their chip after the Race, andwill be assessed a $30 fee for not returning the chip.
