Become a Director!
The Annapolis Striders has two positions open immediately to join the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include attending monthly evening meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, representing the membership of the organization, and being actively involved in the club by attending as many events as possible as a participant or volunteer. This link provides additional background on the Role of a Director.
The Board of Directors is filled by all volunteers. If you have not had the chance to be on the Board, this is a great opportunity. The Board is also preparing the slate of officers for the next election in early 2025. If you would like to be considered for a current or future position, please contact Jim Falvey or Casey Rayburg.

Registration is now open for the 2025 edition of the B&A Trail Marathon and Half Marathon
Sunday, March 30, 2025.
For more information and registration
Although I know we are more than four months away from race day, I don’t think it’s too early to start asking my fellow Annapolis Striders to consider volunteering for the 2025 event. Several people have already signed up, and I thank them for their support. I have a particular need, however, for three, four would be better, Annapolis Striders to volunteer to work on the truck crew. This is a two-day volunteer opportunity. It involves moving items from the West Street shed to Severna Park Hight School on the Saturday before the race, delivering supplies to the Aid Stations on the day of the race, and then picking up all the supplies and returning them to the West Street shed. Ask anyone who has done it before, they will tell you it’s a lot of work.
So, who do I want to volunteer for this prestigious truck crew assignment? Certainly not the guys (including you, Robin) who worked on the truck last year. They paid their dues, and I want each one of them to run the marathon or the half this year. No, my ideal candidate is an Annapolis Strider who has run either the marathon or the half one or more times in the past and enjoyed the benefit of the effort the past volunteers have made to the success of the races. The Annapolis Striders is a volunteer organization based, at least in part, on the concept of mutuality: I volunteer so you can run races, you volunteer so I can run races. It’s that simple. So, if you have run this event several times, maybe this is your chance to volunteer so other Annapolis Striders can take a shot at the B&A course.

B&A Trail Half Marathon Training: The actual training kicks off this Saturday, 1/4/25 at 0730; we’ll meet at Jones Station; 44 runners have signed up so far. A full training plan is available for those interested and I will send that out starting this week to all who have signed up. The plan is particularly focused on those who have not run a ½ marathon but an enhanced version will also be available for those who have completed a ½ but may want to step up their game a bit. For more information and registration
Winter Warriors 5K Training: 37 folks have signed up for the Winter Warriors (started on Sunday, November 24, 2024) 5k Beginning Runners Program, which is a ten week run/walk program starting with a week one, 1 minute run, 2 minute walk over 20 minutes, three times a week with a gradual increase of running time of about 1 minute a week until week ten with a 20 minutes continuous run. Pre-run dynamic warm up exercises and walk with a post-run cool-down walk, static stretches are included. The graduation race goal is the Valentine’s 5K (held on Saturday, February 8, 2025). Race fees are separate and NOT included in membership fees, and participation in those races is not required to join the training program. A race preview run is available to participants the weekend before the race. Check the Striders website for more details.
Something to Think About: Here’s something that is applicable to all runners: unwanted weight gain. Many of us tend to think that because we run, we can eat whatever we want. While it is a free country and you certainly are entitled to do whatever you like, your body may not agree with you and unwanted/unexpected weight gain may be the result. Check out this article to gain some insights on how to attack this problem and keep the weight gain in check. Gaining Weight From Running? Here Are 4 Reasons Why You Could Be Running But Not Losing Weight: Don’t let the scale get you down: https://marathonhandbook.com/gaining-weight-from-running
