50th annual Annapolis Ten Mile Run
Sunday, August 24th, 2025
*** Registration opens on Tuesday, April 1st! ***
Our premier Annapolis Striders event, the one we’ve been hosting since our club’s inception in 1978, returns for its FIFTIETH year on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, and registration for the 50th annual Annapolis Ten Mile Run is about to open! And to celebrate our half-century of hills, heat, & humidity, we’re offering a special ONE DAY ONLY entry fee of just $50 (plus $4 processing) on April 1st! So please, spread the word. Complete A-10 details can be found at RunSignup.com/A10, and registration opens at midnight Eastern on Tuesday.
After April 1st, Annapolis Striders members can take a $10 discount on our regular entry fees, so you’ll still get a great deal even if you miss the day-one special! Everything you’ve come to expect from the A-10 will be back this year– scenic course through Annapolis & surrounding environs, a great custom finisher premium (a jacket this year) and finisher medal, post-race party with live music and beer, and plenty more. And this year’s race has been designated the Road Runners Club of America’s 10 mile national championship event, so hopefully we’ll see some serious competition for our many race awards! But rest assured that runners of all abilities are welcome to participate. Hope to see you and your friends & family at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on August 24th!
(Volunteers wanted too! Our all-volunteer, non-profit running club cannot host this event without hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers on race day. If you’d rather help out than run this year, please e-mail a10volunteers@annapolisstriders.org

It’s never too early to start thinking about NEXT year’s annual awards! If you see one of your Strider friends having an outstanding year of running this year, or if you think your own performances this year might be award-worthy, keep that in mind and look for the opening of award nominations this fall. The more information you provide in your nomination, the better! Read all about our annual awards & the criteria HERE:

The Annapolis Striders are eager to build our 5K coaching group and are in search of people who would be willing to coach 1-3 days a week during our training series this April-June.
To be a coach, you must hold a current Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) certification or be willing to get certified through one of their online or in-person 2-day workshops. If you successfully complete the training and coach for us, the Annapolis Striders will reimburse you for the training. For more information, please contact Laura Amin at laura.amin66@gmail.com.

B&A Trail Half Marathon Training: Our training for the B&A is done and in the books! We’ll have some portion of the 73 folks who signed up for the race toeing the line this Sunday, March 30. Weather looks to be decent, so if you aren’t running, come out and cheer everyone on or sign up to help out (there’s still time!).
Coaching Call: We are always looking for coach/mentors for our other training programs, such as the 5K, 10K, Jr. Striders and marathon groups; we have a particular need for a Lead Coach for the 10K group and for the Jr. Striders. If you’d like to step into coaching and are interested, give me a shout. If you are experienced/RRCA-certified (or certified via another program, such as UESCA) or are interested in becoming certified, we can help pay for that training as well.
News you can use: For those unfamiliar with heart rate variability, technically speaking, the amount of variation in the time between consecutive heartbeats collected over a certain amount of time (e.g. a minute) is what we call heart rate variability (HRV). Why is heart rate variability important? Well, HRV is a marker of stress, and as such, it can be a useful parameter to track for athletes aiming to improve their performance. Here’s a link to an article that explains things in more detail: https://marathonhandbook.com/heart-rate-variability-guide.

There is a compelling new book by George R. Banker, Marine Corps Marathon Honor and Pride. This historical work covers 471.6 miles (18 years x 26.2 miles), and you will appreciate what it takes to succeed. The time period is 2007 through 2024. This book continues where the first book Marine Corps Marathon A Running Tradition ended (1976-2006).

The Crofton Kiwanis Club and Foundation 10K and 5K
Saturday, June 14th, 2025
The Crofton Kiwanis Club and Foundation are holding their annual community 10K and 5K races for Saturday, June 14th. The race starts at 8:00 a.m. at the Crofton Country Club. The certified 10K course includes a great tour around our tree-lined community with some challenging hills and is a good tune-up for fall marathon training or even first time 10K participants. The 5K course goes completely around Crofton Parkway. All profits from these races are put towards the many community charities that the Crofton Kiwanis Foundation supports.
