ANNAPOLIS STRIDERS RUNNER EDUCATION AND

TRAINING

Annapolis Striders membership is required to participate in these training programs. There is no fee for the training programs but you must register.

Keep an eye on this section for announcements about training programs!

Annapolis Striders Training/Education

Update from Bob Moseley,

VP of Training and Education

Moore’s Marines Marathon Training continues this week. Currently, we have 87 runners signed up for training. This week, we’ll be rolling out for a 14-miler. If you need some company for your long run, come join us on Saturday, 10/12 at 6:30 AM at Severna Park High; we meet at the back of the school.

For those interested in some organized speed work, Lee Crumbaugh hosts a weekly session on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm on Bates Track behind Maryland Hall. Anyone who is interested can show up, warmed up. The workouts are posted on Facebook on the Tuesday Night Track Workout (TNTW) page. If you have any questions, email Lee at leepublish@gmail.com.

Something to Think About: As we get deeper into fall marathon season and the results start pouring in, thoughts may turn to the next marathon and what can be done to improve finishing times. One aspirational goal for many is to break the 4 hour barrier. Here is an article that will give some insights on the sort of training program that can help reach that goal: https://marathonhandbook.com/4-hour-marathon-pace. If you’ve run a fall marathon or plan to, send your time to me at vp_training@annapolisstriders.org.

Moore’s Marines Marathon Training

Saturday, June 29th to Sunday, October 27th, 2024

t June 29 – Sun October 27, 2024

If you’d like to participate in the program, please see

For more information and registration to sign up. There is some additional information on the website that provides some details into the program and once sign up begins, I will send out more details on the actual training plan. Of note, there will also be a Facebook page for the training group that will open on or about June 3 and once you’ve formally signed up, you will get access to that page. We’ll use FB to send announcements, ask questions (and answer them), and provide some training tips for aspiring and experienced marathoners. Looking forward to getting ready for the fall! Bob Moseley.

Training opportunity:

Rosaryville Veterans Day Trail Run Training Series

The Rosaryville Veterans Day Trail Run race committee is hosting a series of training runs to help runners get ready for the November 9th races (50K & 20K).

The Rosaryville Veterans Day Training Run #3 will take place on

Saturday October 12th. This training run is open to all levels of runners, and it is a great way to get some training miles while getting a chance to preview the race course. You do not need to sign up for the race to join the training runs.

The training run will be held at Rosaryville State Park on Saturday, October 12th, at 8:30am. The park opens at 8am, we are planning to have shoes hit the trail at 8:30am. Please plan accordingly. There is a $3.00 park entrance fee, which is paid upon entering Rosaryville State Park. There is no additional cost to participate in the training run.

The plan is to break into two groups. The first group will do the entire 9.5-mile loop. The second group will run approximately 6.5 miles (start at the parking lot then run to road crossing near the Mt. Airy Mansion and use a mix of dirt and paved roads to return to the parking lot where we started). Both groups will run approximately 12-14mpm pace depending on weather conditions and general pace of the group. There is not any water/nutrition out on the training so please make sure to bring water and nutrition you will need depending on which group you join. After the run we will have some cold water to hand out and hang out for a bit.

The perimeter trail is approximately 9.5 miles long and buffed out (not technical trail) with very little elevation change (flat).”

We hope to see you there!

Greasy-Gooney 10K

Saturday, October 26, 2024 9:00 am

This one is a long way away from Anne Arundel County– it’s a good two hour drive west of Annapolis– but the Annapolis Striders’ own Karsten Brown is the longtime race director of this incredibly scenic run through the Blue Ridge foothills near Front Royal, Virginia, and he’d like to invite his fellow Striders to take part. Preregister for the Greasy-Gooney 10K using the RunSignup account associated with your Striders membership and you’ll get $2 off your entry fee! Despite this secret offer, Kar freely admits that this low-key race is probably not worth the lengthy drive, but if you’re feeling adventurous, come on out anyway. Pretty foliage, mountain views, really cheap random prizes, and a fun & relaxed vibe!
